Adapt Cafe

MyhomieNickcametomewithanidea:buildafourthwavecoffeeshopinPortlandinspiredbyEuropeanbrutalistarchitecture.Iwasinimmediately.I'dspentmostofmytwentiesincoffeeshopsacrossPortland,LA,NewYork,andBoston,makingitmymissiontobebestmateswitheverylocalbaristaandroasterIcouldfind,sothiswasexactlymykindofproject.Icameonascreativedirectorandgraphicdesigner,andoverthenextyearwebuiltoutthebrandidentity,apparel,andretailcollateral.Thebrutalistreferencewasn'tjustamoodboardword,itshapedtheactualdesign.Cold,stark,structurallinesranstraightintothetypographyandaminimalcolorpalette,givingAdaptCafealookthatfeltlesslikeacoffeeshopandmorelikeastatement.NothinglikeitexistedinPortland.NooneelsewasbringingEuropeanroastersintothecity,andnoothercafehadavisualidentitywiththatkindofedge.
